Past the box score, into why
A box score tells you a hitter went 0-for-4. It does not tell you he squared up three balls at 100 mph directly at fielders, which is a completely different week of coaching than four weak ground balls. Exit velocity and launch angle separate those two players, and they stabilize far faster than batting average — you can learn something real from a handful of games instead of waiting half a season for the results to stop lying to you.
The pitch-type splits are where most of the coaching lives. A hitter who runs a 15% whiff rate against fastballs and 45% against sliders does not have a swing problem, he has a specific recognition problem, and that is a practice plan rather than a vague instruction to see the ball better. Because the report breaks chase, whiff, and contact down by pitch type, that pattern is visible in about ten seconds instead of buried in a spreadsheet.
One upload covers the whole lineup. Every batter who appears in the game file gets a report, including the opposing lineup — which quietly means the same file you uploaded for your own hitters also contains a scouting view of the team you just played. Programs facing an opponent twice in a season get real value out of that on the second meeting.
The spray chart has adjustable dimensions on purpose. Generic outfield outlines make every hitter look like a gap-to-gap doubles machine or a warning-track guy depending on whose park the template was drawn from. Setting your own dimensions means a fly ball that is a home run in your park reads as a home run in the chart.
Common questions
What data do I need for a hitting report?
A Trackman or Yakkertech game CSV. Those files carry exit velocity, launch angle, batted-ball location, and pitch-by-pitch results for every batter in the game, which is everything the report is built from. A Rapsodo bullpen file will not work — there are no hitters in it.
Does it cover every hitter or just my team?
Every batter in the file, both teams. You pick whose report you want to generate. Since your game CSV contains the opposing lineup too, you effectively get scouting data on opponents you have already faced.
What if exit velocity is missing on some pitches?
Exit velo only exists for balls put in play, so takes and swinging strikes have no value — that is expected. The report calculates contact metrics from the balls in play and plate-discipline metrics from every pitch, so both stay accurate.
Can I compare a hitter across multiple games?
Yes. Every generated report is saved, and Player Search pulls a hitter’s combined numbers across every game your program has uploaded, so you can look at a full-season picture rather than one outing.
Can players see their own hitting reports?
On Team and Facility plans, yes. Players get their own accounts and see the reports assigned to them, plus their own combined stats — they cannot see other players’ data or coaching tools.
